About Millersburg

City of Millersburg

The community of Millersburg was first recognized in 1871 when Southern Pacific Railroad established a station on a donation land claim of the Miller family. In the early 1970’s the City of Albany was looking to annex land that include the property of Wah Chang, now known as ATI Metals.  In an effort to avoid annexation into Albany and having to pay taxes to the City of Albany, then president of Wah Chang, Stephen Yih began a move to form the City of Millersburg.

The vote to incorporate the City passed by vote of 76 to 74.  The first Council meeting was August 28, 1974; the City’s first mayor was Mary Klages who served in the role until Clayton Wood, a previous Planning Commission member was elected to the Council and was appointed as mayor in 1976.  Mayor Wood continued to be reelected to his Council position and was re-appointed continuously to the mayor’s position until his retirement in 2016.

Millersburg is fortunate in that our community contains a significant assets represented in our business and industrial base that accounts for over 50 percent of our total assessed value, and is a key factor to the City having the third highest assessed value of all communities in Linn County, following the cities of Albany and Lebanon.  With our strong industrial base and residential housing which represents one of the highest median home prices surpassing that of the City of Corvallis, the City is able to provide a high level of service not typically seen in cities of comparable size, and at the same time doing it with minimal capital debt.

The City’s future remains bright, and with City ownership of almost 200 acres of industrially zoned property for future development, it should only get better.
